Determine the values o `m` for which equations `3x^2+4m x+2=0a n d2x^2+3x-2=0` may have a common root.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`2x^(2) + 3x - 2 = 0`
`therefore (2x - 1) (x +2) = 0`
`rArr x = 1//2, -2`
So. Common root is either `1//2` or - 2
Putting `x = 1//2` in first equation we get
`m = -11//8`
Putting `x = -2 ` in first equation, we get
`m = 7//4`
