Heat capacity `(C_(p))` is an extensive property but specific heat (C) is an intensive property. What will be the relation between `C_(p)` and C for 1 mol of water?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For water, molar heat capacity `(C_(p)) = 18 xx `specific heat
`:. C_(p)= 18 xx c`
But specific heat of water , `c=4.18 J g^(-1) K^(-1)`
`:. `Heat capacity , `C_(p) =18 xx 4.18 JK^(-1) mol^(-1) = 75.3 JK^(-1) mol^(-1)`

A: Specific heat is an intensive property R: Heat capacity is an extensive property.

The ratio fo two specific heat (C_(P))/(C_(V)) of CO is

Specific heat at constant pressure C_P of a gas

If for hydrogen C_(P) - C_(V) = m and for nitrogen C_(P) - C_(V) = n , where C_(P) and C_(V) refer to specific heats per unit mass respectively at constant pressure and constant volume, the relation between m and n is (molecular weight of hydrogen = 2 and molecular weight or nitrogen = 14)
