What is a Grignard reagent ? How is propane
prepared from a Grignard reagent ?

Alkylmagnesium halides are called Grignard reagents . For example, n-propyl bromide reacts with magnesium to form n-propylmagnesium bromide. This upon treatment with water gives propane.

`CH_3CH_2CH_2MgBr + H_2O to CH_3CH_2CH_3+ Mg(OH)Br`
