The compound that will react most readily with gaseous bromine has the formula

A

`C_3H_6`

B

`C_2H_2`

C

`C_4H_10`

D

`C_2H_4`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

Alkenes are more reactive than alkynes towards addition reactions, therefore , both propene `(C_3H_6)` and ethylene `(C_2H_4)` are more reactive than acetylene `(C_2H_2)` . Out of propene and ethylene, propene is more reactive because the +I-effect of the `CH_3` group increases the electron density in the double bond, `CH_3 to - CH=CH_2`. Butane `(C_4H_10)` being saturated, however does not give addition reactions at all.
Thus, option )(a) is correct.
