The reagents for the following conversion

A

alcoholic KOH

B

alcoholic KOH followed by `NaNH_2`

C

aqueous KOH followed by `NaNH_2`

D

`Zn//CH_3OH`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Due to resonance , C-Br bond in vinyl bromide has some double bond character and hence is more strongly held than in alkyl bromides

Therefore, dehydrobromination of alkyl bromides occurs smoothly with alcoholic KOH but to remove HBr from vinyl bromide, stronger base like `NaNH_2` in liq. `NH_3` is required.
