In paramecium. There is temporary union fo two individuals of one and the same species for the purpose of exchange of their micronuclear material, known as conjugation. During this, the macronucleus distintegrates completely and micronucleus divides into four micronuleus by meiosis. Out of these four micronucleus, only one takes part in conjugation and the remaining three degenerates. This process is described in the figure given below
