The wall of cylinderical body of Hydra surrounds a central cavity called coelenteron or gastrovascular cavity. This cavity communicates with the exterior through the mouth .This is named so, because water currents in the coelenteron performs all the functions of circulatory system in addition to the functions of digestive cavity. Its body wall is composed of two layers -epidermis and gastrodermis separated by a non-cellular layer (mesogloea).
