Earthworms are hermaphrodite / bisexual annelids, i.e. Possessing both make and female reproductive organs in a single organism during their lifespan. Having this bisexual character, self, fertilisation does not occur in earthworm. This is mainly due to possessing protandrous condition. In this condition testes mature earlier than ovaries which prevent self - fertilisation and lead to cross - fertilisation between the two worms.
