Emerson ' s enhancement effect and Red drop have been instrumental in the discovery of

A

two photosystems operating simultaneously

B

photosphorylation and cyclic electron transport

C

oxidative phosphorylation

D

photophosphorylation and non - cyclic electron transport

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Emerson performed photosynthetic experiment on Chlorella. He provided monochromatic light of more than 680 nm and observed a decrease in the rate of photosynthesis. This is known as red drop.
Later , he provided synchronished light of 680 nm and 700 nm and observed a increase in the rate of photosynthesis. This is known as Emerson enhancement effect. this experiment led to discover of two photosystem -PS-I `(P_700)` and PS-II `(P_680)` operating in photosynthesis.

Polio drops are delivered to 50K children in a district. The rate at which polio drops are given is directly proportional to the number of children who have not been administered the drops. By the end of 2^("nd") week half the children have been given the polio drops. How many will have been given the drops by the end of 3rd week can be estimated using the solution to the differential equation (dy)/(dx)=k(50-y)where x denotes the number of weeks and y the number of children who have been given the drops. State the order of the above given differential equation.
