Assertion `CO_(2)` transport occurs very fast through RBCs.
Reason : Enzyme carbonic anhydrase is absent in blood plsama.

A

Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion

B

Both Assertion and Reason are true, but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion

C

Assertion is true, but Reason is true

D

Assertion is false and Reason is true.

The correct Answer is:
C

Transport of `CO_(2)` by blood is much easier than that of oxygen due to high solubility of `CO_(2)` in water. About 70% of `CO_(2)` is transported through RBCs. `CO_(2)` entres in RBCs , where it reacts with water to from carbonic acid in the presence of carbonic anhydrase. most of the carbonic acid rapidly dissociates to form bicarbonate and hydrogen ions.

Assertion :- Carbonic acid is more formed inside the RBC's than the plasma. Reason :- An enzyme carbonic anhydrase is present inside the RBC's

Write down the reaction facilitated by an enzyme carbonic anhydrase present in RBCs .

Assertion: RBCs contains a very high concentration of the enzyme, carbonic anhydrase and minute quantities of the same is present in the plasma too. Reason: Carbonic anhydrase catalyse the formation of carbonic acid from H_(2)O" and "CO_(2)

Which of the following statement // s is // are correct ? A- A high concentration of carbonic anhydrase is present in RBC. B- Minute quantities of carbonic anhydrase is present in plasema. C-Every 100 ml blood delivers approximately 4 ml of CO_(2) to the alveoli. D- 20-25% CO_(2) is carried by haemoglobin as carbaminohaemoglobin.

Assertion. CO_(2) is carried in the plasma mainly as HCO_(3)^(-) ions Reason. Zinc -containing enzyme carbonic anhydrase of RBCs catalyses the formations fo HCO_(3)^(-) ions that enter plasma.

Assertion : At the tissue level, 70 percent of CO_(2) formed from contabolism is trapped as bicarbonate in the RBCs. Reason : At tissue level, carbonic anhydrase in RBCs facilites the formation of CO_(2) and H_(2)O from bicarbonate.

What percent (%) of CO_(2) is transported as bicarbonate (HCO_(3)) with the help of the enzyme carbonic anhydrase?
