Amnocentesis is a prenatal diagnostic technique to determine the genetic disorders such as Down's syndrome, Turner's syndrome and Klinefelter's syndrome etc. Since, the cells withdrawn with needle from the amniotifc fluid are examined for chromosomal abnormalities. So, some people illegaly use this technique for determining the sex of the child.
