Cynobacteria like Nostoc can fix nitrogen through a specific structure called heterocysts. They fix atmospheric `N_(2)` using niterogenase enzyme which gets inactivated in presence of oxygen. Hence, the heterocysts creates a micro anaerobic environment in them to facilitate nitrogen-fixation.
