`Ca^(2+)` ions are helpful in the formation of pro-thrombinase which catalyses breakdown of prothrombin into thrombin and small peptide fragments. Thrombin is important for the clotting of blood. Calcium plays a key regulatory role in muscle contraction. It helps in exposing the active sites on the F-actin molecules for myosin cross-bridges. Calcium ions help in the transmission of nerve impulse at a chemical synapse.
