Find the equation of the straight line w...

Find the equation of the straight line which makes equal intercepts on the axes and passes through the point `(1,-3).`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let the equation of the line be
`x/a+y/b=1`
Since, it makes equal intercepts on the coordinate axes, thus `a=b.`
So, the equation of line is
`x/a+y/a=1`
`impliesx+y=a`
Now, the line passes through `(1,-3)` Thus
`1-3=a`
`=a=-2`
Thus the equatijo of the line is `x+y+2=0`
