If X any Y are two sets such that `X cup Y` has 40 element X has 25 elements and Y has 24 elements how many elements does `X cap Y` have?

Given that `n(X cup Y)=40, n(X)=25, n(Y)=24, n(X cap Y)=?`
By using the formula, `n(X cup Y)=n(X)+n(Y)=24-n(X cap Y)`
`Rightarrow 40=25+24-n(X cap Y)`
`Rightarrow n(X cap Y)=49-40`
`therefore n(X cap Y)=9`
