The position of the top corner of the le...

The position of the top corner of the lecture room was required. To find this a theodolite was
set up as in the figure below. The distance to the side wall, along the x-axis is 7 m, and following
angles were measured `AOX = 60^(@), AOY= 45^(@)` Calculate the coordinates of the corner realtive
to the position of theodolite.

`l=x/r = cos 60^(@) = 0.5`
`m=y/r=cos 45^(@) = 1/sqrt(2)`
using
`l^(2) + m^(2) + n^(2)= 1`
`1/4+1/2 + n^(2) =1`
`n^(2) = 1/4`
`n=pm 1/2`
`cos gamma=+1/2 rArr gamma = 60^(@)`
Length OA can be calculated as
`x/r =0.5`
`r= 7/(0.5)=14`
Fron the other direction cosines
`y=14 cos beta = 14 xx 1 /(sqrt(2))=7sqrt(2)`
`z = 14 cosgamma = 14 xx 1/2 =7`
Coordinates of corner `=(7, 7sqrt(2), 7)`.

Two towers AB and CD are situated at a distance d apart, as shown in figure. AB is 20 m high and CD is 30 m high from the ground. An object of mass m is thrown from the top of AB horizontally with a velocity of 10 m/s towards CD. Simultaneously another object of mass 2 m is thrown fromt the top of CD at an angle of 60^(@) to the horizontal towards AB with the same magnitude of initial velocity as that oft he first object. The two objects move in the same vertical plane, collide in mid air and stick to each other (i) calculate the distance between the towers and (ii) find the position where the objects hit the ground.

A coherent parallel beam of microwaves of wavelength lambda = 0.5 mm falls on aYoung's double- slit apparatus. The separation between the slits is 1.0 mm. The intensity of microwaves is measured on a screen placed parallel to the plane of the slits at a distance of 1.0 m from it as shown in Fig. 2.42. If the incident beam makes an angle or 30^(@) with the x-axis (as in the dotted arrow shown in the figure), find the y-coordinates of the first minima on either side of the central maximum.

A charged point particle having positive charge q , mass m is projected in x-z plane with a speed v_(0) at an angle theta with the x-"axis" , while another identical particle is projected simultaneously along the y-"axis" from the origin (see figure) with an equal speed v_(0) . An electric field vecE= -E_(0)hatk exists in the x-z plane, while a magnetic field vecB=B_(0)hatk exists in the region y gt 0 ( F_(0) , B_(0) gt 0 ). It is observed that both the particles collide after some time. Assume that the space is gravity free. ( i ) Find the time after which the particles collide and the coordinates of the point of collision. ( ii ) Find the velocity v_(0) and the angle theta in terms of the other variables. ( iii ) What is the maximum value of the z- coordinate of the first particle ?
