The can be easily done using trinngle method of vector addition , in fig figuer show
` bar(AB)` = Displacement along east
` bar(BC)` = displacement long south
Then resultant displacement is given by the third side of ` triangleABC`
` bar(AC) = bar(AB) + bar(BC)`
` |bar(AC)| = sqrt(AB^(2) + BC^(2))`
= ` sqrt(16+9)`
= 5 cm
Let ` bar(AC)` make angle ` theta` with each direction
Then ` tan theta = 3/4`
` theta = tan^(-1) (3/4) = 36.86 ^(@)`
Thus, the boy is actually displaced by 5 m at an angle ` 36.86^(@)` south of east .
