The x and Y components of a vector barP...

The x and Y components of a vector ` barP` have numerical values 5 and 6 respectively. Find the vector `barP`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let `barP` be as shown in the figure, then according to the given information.
` P_(x) =5, P_(y) =6`
` |barP| = sqrt(P_(x)^(2) +P_(y)^(2))`
` sqrt(25 + 36)`
` |barP| = sqrt61`
And ` tan theta = P_(y)/P_(x) = 6/5`
` Rightarrow theta = tan^(-1) (6/5)`
` = 50.19^(@)`
Thus ` barP` having magnitude ` sqrt61` lies in x -y plane at an angle ` 50.19^(@)` to the x-axis.
