A stone is thrown upwards with velocity ...

A stone is thrown upwards with velocity 25m/s. Another stone is simultaneously thrown downward from the same point with speed 10 m/s. When the first stone is at a height 10 m. what is the relative velocity of first stone w.r.t second ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Initial velocity of fist stone = `25 hat j`
initial velocity of second stone = ` -10 hatj`
velocity of 1st w.r.t 2nd ` = vecv_(12) = vecv_(1) - vecv_(2)`
As both are falling under gravity , so , their relative acceleration is zero.
Hence, their relative velocity will remain constant at all instant.
` v_("rel") = 35` m/s upward.
