How does velence bond theory, explain the existence of `H_(2)` but non-existence of `He_(2)`?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

According to valence bond theory, a covalent bond is formed by overlap of half-filled atomic orbitals :
H-atoms have half-filled orbitals `(1s^(1))` but He atoms have fully filled orbitals `(1s^(2))`.
