The sum of the number of lone pair of el...

The sum of the number of lone pair of electrons on each central atom in the following species is
`[TeBr_(6)]^(2-), [BrF_(2)]^(2+), SNF_(3), and [XeF_(3)]^(-)`
(Atomic number : N = 7, F = 9, S = 16, Br = 35, Te = 52, Xe = 54)

The correct Answer is:
6

Lone pairs (Ip) = Total pairs (T) - Bond pairs (B)
In `[TeBr_(6)]^(2-) T = (1)/(2) (6 + 6 + 2 ) = 7 , B = 6 `
`therefore lp = 7 - 6 = 1 `
In `BrF_(2)^(+) , T= (1)/(2) = ( 7 + 2 - 1) = 4 , B = 2 `
` therefore lp = 4 - 2 = 2 `
In ` XeF_(3)^(-), T = (1)/(2) (8 + 3 + 1) = 6 , B = 3 `
`therefore lp = 3 `
Structure of `SNF_(3) ` is where S has zero
lone pair of electrons.
`{:("Species" ,[TeBr_(6)]^(2-), BrF_(2)^(+),SNF_(3), XeF_(3)^(-)),("Lone pairs",1,2,0,3):}`
