A balloon which can be inflated upto 1 L is partially inflated with air and has a volume of 275 mL and contains 0.0120 mole of air. A piece of dry ice (solid `CO_(2)`) weighing 1.0 g is introduced into the vaporised, assuming that temperature and pressure remain constant. calculate the volume of balloon after addition of dry ice.

1 g of `CO_(2)=(1)/(44)` mole =0.0227 mole (Molecular mass of `CO_(2)`=44)
Moles of air originally present=0.0120 mole
`:.` Total moles now present in the balloon =0.012+0.0227=0.0347
Thus, `" " n_(1)=0.012, n_(2)=0.03417`
Applying `" "` PV=nRT, as P and T remain constant
`(V_(1))/(V_(2))=(n_(1))/(n_(2))" "or" " V_(2)=V_(1)xx(n_(2))/(n_(1))=275xx(0.0347)/(0.0120)=795" mL"`

A weather balloon is inflated with helium. The balloon has a volume of 100 m^(3) and it must be inflated to pressure of 0.10 atm. If 50 L gas cylinders of helium at a pressure of 100 atm are used, how many cylinders are needed? Assume that the temperature is constant.

A flask having a volume of 250.0 mL and containing air is heated to 100^(@)C and sealed. Then the flask is cooled to 25^(@)C , immersed in water, and opened. What volume of water will be drawn back into the flask, assuming the pressure remaining constant ?

An inflated ballon has a volume of 0.55 L at sea level (1.0 atm) and is allowed to rise to a height of 6.5 km , where the pressure is about 0.40 atm . Assuming that the temperature remains constant , what is the final volume of the ballon ? Strategy : We know the volume at one pressure and want to know the volume at another pressure keeping temperature constant. This suggests the use of Boyle's law. We tabulate what is known and what is asked for and then solve Boyle's law equation for the unknown quantitu V_(2) .
