Why does ice melt showly at higher altitudes?

Melting of ice is endothermic process accompanied by decrease of volume. At altitudes , pressure as well as the temperature is low, In the equilibrium , Ice `hArr` Water, both the factors favour backward process. Hence the melting is slow.
