The pH of the solution produced by mixin...

The pH of the solution produced by mixing equal volume of `2.0 xx 10^(-3) M HClO_(4)` and `1.0 xx 10^(-2) M KClO_(4)` is

A

`2.7`

B

`2.3`

C

`3.0`

D

`1.0`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

`H^(+)` ions are obtained only from `HClO_(4)` which ionizes completely (being a strong acid ). Equal volume of `KClO_(4)` solution added reduces `[H^(+)]` ions to half 3.0 . Hence,
`[H^(+)]=(2xx10^(-3))/(2) :. pH = - log (10^(-3))=3.0`.
