`Pb(NO_(3))_(2)` on heating gives a brown gas which undergoes dimerization on cooling? Identify the gas.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`Pb(NO_(3))_(2)` on heating produces nitrogen dioxide `(NO_(2))`. It is a brown gas. Being an odd electron species on cooling it undergoes dimerization to form dinitrogen tetroxide `(N_(2)O_(4))` which is colourless.
