their ability to adopt variable oxidation states

B

their chemical reactivity

C

their magnetic behaviour

D

their unfilled d-orbitals

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The catalytic activity of transitiion metals and their compounds is ascribed mainly to their ability to adopt variable oxidation states due to which they easily absorb and re-emit wide range of energies to provide the necessary activation energy. Also, because of the variable oxidation states, they easily combine with one of the reactants to form an intermediate which reacts with the second reactant to formthe final products.
