`Fe_(2)O_(3)(s)+2Al(s) to 2Fe (l) +Al_(2)O_(3)(l)+Heat` It is a displacement reaction which is highly exothermic. The amount of heat evolved is so large that the metal is produced in the molten state. The displacement reaction of iron (III) oxide with aluminium is known as thermite reaction.
