Find the mean proportional between (x-y)...

Find the mean proportional between `(x-y)` and `( x^3 - x^2y)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here, by mean proportion, we mean geometric mean.
We know, geometric mean`(M)` of `a` and `b` can be given as,
`M = sqrt(ab)`
So, mean proportion of `(x-y)(x^3-x^2y)` will be,
`M = sqrt((x-y)(x^3-x^2y))`
`=sqrt(x^2(x-y)(x-y))`
`:.M = +-x(x-y)`
