Find the equation for the ellipse that s...

Find the equation for the ellipse that satisfies the given conditions:Length of minor axis 16, foci `(0,+-6)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Equation of ellipse can be given as
`x^2/a^2+y^2/b^2 = 1`
Here, Foci of ellipse ` = (0,+-6)`
So, `Y`-axis is major axis and `c = 6`
Length of minor axis `= 16`
`:.2a = 16=> a = 8=>a^2 = 64`
`:. b^2 = a^2+c^2 = 64+36 = 100`
