Find the slope of the line which passes ...

Find the slope of the line which passes through the origin and the mid-point of the line segment joining the points `A (0, -4) and B (8, 0)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`P=(0,-4)` and `B=(8,0)`
If the mid-point of `PB` is `(X,y)` then
`x=(x_(1)+x_(2))/(2)=(0+8)/(2)=(8)/(2)=4`
and `y=(y_(1)+y_(2))/(2)=(-4+0)/(2)=-(4)/(2)=-2`
`:.` Slope of line joining the point `(4,-2)` and origin
`m=(0-(-2))/(0-(-4))=-(2)/(4)=-(1)/(2)`
Therefore, slope of required line `=-(1)/(2)`
