The temperature and pressure at Simla are `15.0^(@)C` and 72.0cm of mercury and at Kalka these are `35.0^(@)C` and 76.0 cm of mercury. Find the ratio of air density at Kalka to the air density at Simla.

For Simla
` T_1 =15.0^@C=288K`
` P_1= 72.0 cm of mercury `
For Kalka
` T_2=35.0^@C=308K`
` P_2= 76.0cm of mercury `
From the formula
`PV= (m/M)RT`
` rArr P=(m/V) (1/M)RT`
` rArr P= (d/M) RT `
` rArr d=(PM)/(RT)`
thus
` (d_2/d_1)= (P_2/T_2) xx (T_1/P_1) = (76.0 xx 288)/(308 xx72.0)`
`(d_2/d_1)= .987`

A horizontal uniform glass tube of 100cm length is sealed at both ends contains 10 cm mercury column in the middle , the temperature and pressure of air on either side of mercury column are repectively 31^(@)C and 76cm of mercury, if the air column at one end is kept at 0^(@)C and the other end at 273^(@)C then pressure if air which is 0^(@)C is (in cm of Hg )

A faulty barometer contains certains amount of air and saturated water vapour . It reads 74.0cm when the atmospheric pressure is 76.0cm of mercury and reads 72.10cm when the atmospheric pressure at the air temperature=1.0cm of mercury. In a mercury barometer, at sea level, the normal pressure of the air (one atmosphere) acting on the mercury in the dish supports a 76 cm column of mercury in a closed tube. If you go up in the air, until the density has fallen to half its sea level value, what height of mercury column would you expect?

At the top of the mountain, the thermometer reads 0^(@)C and the barometer reads 710 mm Hg . At the bottom of the mountain the temperature is 30^(@)C and the pressure is 760 mm Hg . The ratio of the density of air at the top with that at the bottom is
