A light beam is incident on a rectangular glass plate `(mu= 1.54)` The reflected light OB passes through a nicol prism.
On observing the transmitted light while rotating the prism, it is seen that

A

intensity of light reduces to zero

B

intensity of light decreases and then increases

C

there is no change of intensity of light

D

intensity of light reduces to zero slowly and then starts to increase

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

The relected light is partially rotatas, ` theta` changes. Hence, intensity will show the variation proportional to ` cos^(2) theta`
` i.e l = l_(0) cos^(2) theta`
When angle increases ` cos^(2) theta`
decreases and vice - versa .
