Which type of graph gives straight line in Langmuir adsorption isotherm?

A

`(x)/(m)to(1)/(p)`

B

`(m)/(x)to(1)/(p)`

C

`"log"_(10)(x)/(m)to(1)/(p)`

D

`"log"_(10)(x)/(m)to p`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

`(x)/(m)=(ap)/(1+bp)`
This equation is known as langmuir adsorption isotherm.
where, x=mass of gas adsorbed m=grams of the adsorbent and a and b are constant.
Taking reciprocal of both sides, we have
`(m)/(x)=(1+bp)/(ap)`
`implies(m)/(x)=(1)/(ap)+(b)/(a)`
thus, a plot of `(m)/(x)` versus `(1)/(p)` will be a straight line.
