Surface temperature of the sun as estima...

Surface temperature of the sun as estimate is `6032.25K`. Find the wavelength at which sun radiates maximum energy (Given, Wien's constant `=0.2898cm-k`)

A

`lambda_(m) = 5000 Å`

B

`lambda_(m) = 48042 Å`

C

`lambda_(m) = 38095 Å`

D

`lambda_(m) = 28916 Å`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

We know that,
`lambda_(m)T = b` or `lambda_(m) = (b)/(T)`
Given that b = 0 2898 cm -K
` = 2.898 xx 10^(-3)m-K`,
T = 6032.25 Å
`therefore lambda_(m) = (2.898 xx 10^(-3))/(6032.25) `
` = 4.8042 xx 10^(-7)`m
or `lambda_(m) = 4804.2 Å`
