Two dice are tossed once. Find the probability of getting an even number on the first die or a total of 8.

A

`(1)/(36)`

B

`(3)/(36)`

C

`(11)/(36)`

D

The correct Answer is:
D

Let A = Event of getting even number on first die
`= {(2,1),…,(2,6)(4,1),…,(4,6) (6,1),….,(6,6)}`
and B = Event of getting a sum of 8
`= {(2,6),(3,5),(4,4),(5,3),(6,2)}`
`A nn B={(2,6),(4,4),(6,2)}`
`therefore n (A) = 18, n(B) = 5, n(A nn B) = 3`
`rArr n(A uu B) = 18+5-3 = 20`
`therefore P(A uu B) = (n (A uu B))/(n(S))=(20)/(36)=(5)/(9)`
