Find the point on the curve y = 2x^(2) -...

Find the point on the curve `y = 2x^(2) - 6x - 4` at which the tangent is parallel to the x-axis

A

`(3/2,13/2)`

B

`(-5/2,-17/2)`

C

`(3/2,17/2)`

D

`(3/2,-17/2)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Given `y=2x^(2)-6x-4implies(dy)/(dx)=4x-6`
Since, tangent is parallel to X-axis
`:.(dy)/(dx)=0implies(dy)/(dx)=4x-6impliesx=3/2`
Then `y= 2 . 9/4 -6 . 3/2-4=-17/2`
`:.` Required point is `(3/2, -17/2)`
