A simple harmonic progressive ( or travelling ) wave is a periodic distrubance in a medium or in free space which propagatess at a finite speed and in which the vibration of the particles of the medium , as in a mechincal wave , or the oscillation of the electric and magnetic fileds, as in an electromagnetic wave , are simple harmonic.
