A Polaroid is a synthetic dichroic sheet polariser packed with tiny dichroic crystals oriented parallel to each other such that the transmitted light is plane polarised.
Uses of a Polaroid :
(1) A Polaroid lens filter is used in photography to reduce or eliminate glare from reflective nonmetallic surfaces.
(2) Polaroid sunglasses reduce the transmitted intensity by a factor of one half and also reduce or eliminate glare.
(3) Polaroid filters are used in liquid crystal display (LCD) screens.
