What is a ferromagnetic material ? Give two examples.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

A material which is strongly attracted by a magnet and whose atoms possess a net magnetic moment, largely due to electron spin, which, within a certain temperature range, spontaneously line up parallel to each other by quantum mechanical exchange interaction is called a ferro-magnetic material.
Examples : Transition elements (iron, cobalt and nickel), inner transition elements (gadolinium, Gd, and dysprosium, Dy) and their alloys.
