Hypotonic solutions : When two solutions have different osmotic pressures, then the solution having lower osmotic pressure is said to be a hypotonic solution with respect to the other solution.
Explanation : Consider two solutions of the substances A and B having osmotic pressures `pi_(A) and pi_(B)`. If `pi_(B)` is less than `pi_(A),` then the solution B is a hypotonic solution with respect to the solution A.
Hence, if `C_(A) and C_(B)` are their concentrations, then, `C_(B)ltC_(A)`. Hence, for equal volumes of the solutions, `n_(B) lt n_(A).`
