Nitric acid has following uses :
(1) It is used in the manufacture of nitrogen fertilizers and organic dyes.
(2) It is used in the manufacture of varnishes, cellulose, etc.
(3) It is used in the manufacture of `H_(2)SO_(4)` in lead chamber process and many other chemical processes.
(4) `HNO_(3)` is used to prepare explosives like nitroglycerine, trinitrotoluene (TNT), cellulose trinitrates.
(5) It is used as an oxidiser in the rocket fuels, for preparing soluble metal nitrates, in the pickling of steel, etching of metals, etc.
