(A) The uses of `PCl_(3)` :
(1) It is used in organic preparations and organic analysis.
(2) On hydrolysis, `PCl_(3)` forms dibasic acid `H_(3)PO_(3)`.
(3) In alkaline solution, `H_(3)PO_(3)` and its salts act as reducing agents and hence used in the precipitation of Cu, Ag and Au from their salts.
(B) The uses of `PCl_(5)` :
(1) It is used as a chlorinating agent .
(2) It is used in the preparation of some chloro organic compounds like `C_(2)H_(5)Cl, CH_(3)COCl`, etc.
(3) It is used in the preparation of metal halides like `AgCl, ZnCl_(2)`, etc.
