HENRY'S LAW

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Henry's law : It states that the solubility of a gas in a liquid at constant temperature is proportional to the pressure of the gas above the solution.
(1) If S is the solubility of a gas in mol `dm^(- 3)` at a pressure p and constant temperature then Henry's law,
`S prop P` or `S = K xx P`
where K is called Henry's law constant.
(2) If P=l atm, then S=K.
(3) If several gases are present, then the solubility of any gas in the mixture is proportional to its partial pressure at given temperature.
