(1) Gyri are the ridges in the folds present on the cerbral cortex.
(2) The number of folds increase the surface area of the cerbral cortex.
(3) Cerbral cortex has sensory and motor areas such as Broca's area, Wernicke's area, etc. If the surface area is greater, the neurons in these areas are also more in number.
(4) Greater the number of neurons greater is the intelligence.
(5) The number of gyri is, therefore, said to be related to the degree of intelligence.
