A capacitor with stored energy `4.0J` is connected with an identical capacitor with no electric fileld in between . Find the total energy stored in the two capactors .

when they connected, the charge shared
` q_1 = q_2`
So that the energy should divided the total energy stored in each of the two capacitance is 2 J.
