The nearest point on the circle x^2 +y^2...

The nearest point on the circle `x^2 +y^2-6x + 4y-12=0` from (-5,4) is

A

`(-7,5)`

B

`(-7,-5)`

C

`(7,-5)`

D

`(7,5)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Given circle is =2sqrt(25(1+49)-625)/(1+49)=5sqrt2`centre of this circle is (3,-2). Let other end the diameter be (alpha,b).`ltbr. `therefore (alpha-1)/(2)=3,(b+1)/(2)=-2`
`therefore (alpha-1)/(2)=3,(b+1)/(2)=-2` hence, other end of the diameter is (7,-5).
