Relative Lowering of Vapour Pressure

What is Vapour pressure?

It is the pressure applied by the vapours over the fluid under the equilibrium conditions at a given temperature. Presently let us take a case of a pure fluid, the surface of the fluid is involved by the molecules of the fluid. Suppose a non-volatile solute is presently added to this pure fluid. Since the solute molecules are non-volatile in nature, the vapour over the solution consists of just solvent (pure fluid) molecules. In the wake of including the solute, the vapour pressure of the solution is seen as lower than that of the pure solvent at a given temperature.
