What is Electrode Potential?

When a metal is put in a solution of its particles, the metal gains either a positive or negative accuse of regard to the solution. By virtue of this, an unmistakable potential difference is created between the metal and the solution. This potential difference is called electrode potential.

For instance, when a plate of zinc is dipped into a solution having Zn²⁺ particles, it turns out to be adversely charged concerning solution and in this way a potential difference is formed between the solution and the zinc plate. This potential difference is named the cathode potential of zinc.
