Buffer Solutions: Definition, Types, Preparation, Examples, and Videos

Buffers are the solutions that maintain a relatively constant pH when a base or an acid is added. Therefore, they protect other molecules in solution from the effects of the added acid or base. Buffer solutions contain either a weak base (B) and its conjugate acid (BH+), or weak acid (HA) and its conjugate base (A) or and they are critical for the proper functioning of biological systems. Every biological fluid is buffered to uphold its physiological pH.

Example: The pH of Blood remains between 7.4-7.6. Blood act as a buffer. As you know, even after eating so many types of food items, the pH of blood remains the same.

The buffer solution is defined as a solution that resists the change in hydrogen ion concentration on the addition of a small amount of acid or a base into it.
