Physical Properties of Alkenes

Alkenes are the hydrocarbon compound that contains a carbon-carbon double bond which alters the physical properties of alkenes. Alkenes are unsaturated organic compounds which have a general formula of CnH2n.  These organic compounds are also referred to as olefins.

Alkenes belong to the family of hydrocarbons, which means they contain hydrogen and carbon only with a carbon-carbon double bond as depicted below. The first two hydrocarbons of this family are Ethene and Propene.
